Your land does more than bear fruit. It provides a free, renewable source of energy that can generate savings in heating, cooling and hot water up to 70%.
Geothermal energy is a smart and effective solution for the reduction of global warming and environmental protection.
In the vast majority of cases, the horizontal ground loop is the best suited option for large spaces available in rural areas. since the piping system is not buried very deep into the ground, excavation is thereby simplified, and therefore less expensive.
More common in Europe and elsewhere in North America, geothermal energy in agriculture is proven and generates spectacular energy savings with a return on investment within a few years.

See how simple it is to install a horizontal ground loop.
The execution of an underground closed loop represents a large portion of the costs related to the installation of a geothermal system, but when one has a large estate, ideal for a horizontal loop, it is possible to considerably lower costs by performing your own excavation work and installation.
It is crucial to follow every step in the design of a loop to obtain the calculations required for maximum system performance. The supervision of a certified contractor is required.
Building green is more than a trend. Building a home according to superior energy efficiency standards has become a concern for many homeowners.
Alain Brasseur, owner of a large family farm, living in the small ancestral home built on the land, has carefully planned the construction of the new home for his family. Since he intended to build his new residence according to ecological preservation criteria and maximum efficiency, Mr. Brasseur selected his materials, accessories and units in order to reach and even surpass Novoclimat requirements.
The owner was first interested in geothermal technology after reading various articles in magazines and specialized publications. A particular story about a large geothermal project on a poultry farm convinced him on the performance of geothermal systems and their relevance in agricultural areas. When it was time to choose the heating and cooling mode of their new home, he analyzed the various options on the market and geothermal soon appeared to him as the ideal option due to ecological features, substantial energy savings, simple project implementation and service life of the system. In short, a sensible investment for future generations.
Flexible, geothermal also allowed him to install both a forced air heating system and radiant floor in the basement and attached garage.
The cost of installing a vertical type closed loop, the most common geothermal loop, requires expert drilling services and average costs are estimated at $15,000. Given the size of the land available near the new construction and the possibility of involving Mr. Brasseur in the installation of the loop, it quickly became obvious to opt for a horizontal slinky shaped loop costing a total $4,000, which represents savings of almost 75%.
The whole installation process was easily executed. Just one glitch: a heavy rain fall delayed the excavation work. The trenches filled with water and they had to install pumps to remove excess water before laying down the pipe. But no one can predict or control Mother Nature's mood swings…
The Brasseur family are fully satisfied with the performance of their new geothermal system and said that they enjoyed remarkable comfort throughout the winter.
After seven months of operation, Mr. Brasseur noticed a 20% saving on his electricity bill. It should be noted that the comparison with the previous situation requires some clarification, among others, the Brasseur family went from a dual energy home comfort system to a geothermal system. Also to be considered, the electricity consumption for the house and farm buildings is billed to a single account. It is therefore difficult to obtain an accurate comparison, but the energy saving is particularly interesting because in addition to lowering the electricity bill, geothermal technology has allowed complete elimination of oil consumption.

In addition to the savings obtained with a geothermal project, it is possible to get financial assistance through programs such as Rénoclimat and Green Power if you install a residential system.
Rénoclimat Program
Installation of a complete geothermal system.
This amount is granted when the home’s main heating system uses oil or another eligible fossil fuel during the pre-work energy evaluation.
Green Power Program
In addition to the assistance provided by the Rénoclimat program, financial assistance is available to you under the Heating with Green Power program for the replacement of fossil-fueled systems with systems that use electricity or other renewable sources of energy.
