The Master Group provides its clients with a series of videos on wall mounted units in order to facilitate the technician’s work for service & maintenance of equipment. A video is available for each of the best selling Fujitsu & Friedrich models.

This series is intended to assist the technician in the disassembly of indoor units and to reduce the time spent on this task. The videos demonstrate, step by step, how to access the unit’s ventilation section for the replacement of certain parts as well as for the maintenance of the system.

Important

As mentioned in each video, the technician must disconnect the high voltage on the units before he starts to disassemble. All the operations shown in the videos must obviously be performed by a qualified technician.

Air flow switch

93 % of air flow switches returned to York Johnson Controls under warranty were not defective.

To reduce the number of warranty claims, here is the procedure to check the switches.

Leave the wiring connected to the air flow switch and, with the power on the unit, check voltage to the air flow switch prior to a demand on the W connection (open state), you should read 24 volts AC on your volt meter. Energize the W connection and, after the power ventor start-up (closed state), volt meter should read .8 volts at the most.

To check any safety switch (roll-out, high limit) on the furnace, the same test should be done.

Multimeters

With technologies changing rapidly, it becomes important to make adjustments and supply our technicians with the proper working tools.

To avoid the purchase of an inadequate and expensive multimeter, here is a list of requirements to perform work on residential units:

• Resistance reading in Meg ohms is now mandatory (ex: York sensors resistance at -40°C is 330 K C it’s 98 K ohms). Many meters currently available on the market do not read Meg ohms. However, many Fluke, MA and UEI models do.
• Capacitance reading is always appreciated by technicians, and most Fluke, UEI and MA meters will read capacitance.
• Thermometers with thermocouple are required for reading duct and mini split temperatures without breaking the blower wheel. Some Fluke meters and most UEI and MA meters will provide this option.
• Next generation of tests will be PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) with York, Coleman and Luxaire products. This electronic dialect can only be read by using some specific meters such as the UEI DM397 (less than $500 net) and the new MA 12812 (less than $100 net).

In conclusion, MA and UEI meters offer more options and are less expensive. On the other hand, Fluke meters are recognized for their reliability!

The transducer

The transducer is used on YP9C, CP9C and LP9C modulating furnaces.

It monitors flue pressure and adjusts the power venter speed to maintain a normal and safe operation.

The transducer is powered with DC voltage by the red and black wires.

Reading between the green wire (-) and the black wire (+) can be compared to the chart below and with the actual evacuator pressure.

7. The next page gives you detailed information as well as the Troubleshooting  option which will guide your diagnosis.
